More Water Fun

Because what else do we do on a hot summer day??

We met a friend with her mare and then Christina with Sham and May for a trail ride today. We started out a bit bouncy but Dan soon settled down. We hit the first creek... and NOPE!!! Dan wouldn't cross it!! What???!!! We did this multiple times last week. It only took about 5-10 minutes to get him over and then he did pretty well with the others. Then we hit the lake because by this time all the horses were sweaty and hot! It was humid.

Dan didn't swim, but... he did go completely under!! ha ha... He spent a good bit splashing around and hanging out and then suddenly decided to lay down. Hee hee.... Cute!!! But then he thought, wow... this feels so good, I'll roll and get both sides. Unfortunately mr. smarty pants rolled to the deep end and submerged himself completely. He jumped up and was like "What the heck just happened?!" and was all blinky eyed, droopy eared, and sopping! We all had to laugh at him. Hee hee... Poor kid.

Fleck had fun too. He was sticking his whole nose in and blowing bubbles! And Sham and May both splashed around and Grace even did a bit of swimming!

Anyways... then we went back to the water complex and he walked right in, and trotted in. But... he wouldn't trot out. He was having too much fun. However, he did canter the whole way through. Then he jumped down the bank into water!!! Once... I couldn't get him to do it a second time, but he had fun the first time. He hunkered down and launched. hee hee.

All in all, a good day.

Glamour Shots

Just some great shots I got the other day...

Naughty baby and redemption

Dan and Fleck and I trekked it over to another farm to trail ride with a friend again. And Danny was AWFUL!! Bad baby!!! He hauled great and stood tied to the trailer while we groomed and tacked up. And aside from untying Fleck, he was patient and good. UNTIL we got started......

Oh dear... I was about ready to kill him. He was just a cheeky little butt! Poor Fleck was trying to put him in his place too, but it was just bouncy baby. Finally once we hit the trails he settled down and went back to the normal only slightly bouncy baby I know. Phew.... I thought I was going to have to turn around and head home. So anyways, both boys were good and we enjoyed the rest of our trail ride again. We then got to the lake and took the ponies in. Fleck barged in much deeper than he normally does and Danny followed. He was in pretty deep, and definitely deeper than he had ever been. :) Not swimming, but he'll get there too!

So.. they both played and splashed in the water a bit and then... poor Dan. He tried to walk out. And I guess he didn't realize the mud would hold him back a bit... cause it was like the mud held onto his feet a bit longer and he didn't compensate for it. Then add in the fact that I had the lead rope too... he face planted!!! Right in the water. Hee hee... A few times actually. I couldn't help but laugh at him. Poor little guy...

So then we headed back home and he was an excellent baby and made up for his earlier antics. He stool patiently tied to the trailer when I tested Fleck out in the ring. Then I took him INTO the washrack and he let me hose him off with only minimal dancing. (Meanwhile Fleck was having a fit back at the trailer since Dan had left him!). Then he stood tied while I took Fleck into the barn to hose. I'm really glad he seems pretty cool with being alone. Not real attached to Fleck or Roany yet... at least away from home. Hope he stays like that :)

It was a good day!

Hilarious Baby

So.... I can't seem to get the videos up now, but will try again later. But here are some stills...

I was attempting to move the shavings into the shavings shed but was interrupted by this joker.... Hee hee.. For like 20 minutes he played and kept trying to get me to join him. What a goofball!!!

Such a RockStar!

So.... this little munchkin is going to be SOOOO MUCH FUN!!!! I seriously cannot wait!! We went trail riding today and he was a champ. He loaded right up, hauled great and unload like a pro. He stayed tied to the trailer and grazed on some grass while I groomed him and Fleck. Then we saddled Fleck up and off we went. He was a little frisky but Fleck kept him in line.

We had the whole place to ourselves so we took advantage of the XC course. There's a lovely water pond that's perfect for introductions. We walked down and in and Dan stood there at the edge. After about a minute he nibbled the grass, stuck his front feet in, pawed, and then ate the grass and sucked down some water. Then that turned to playing in the water with his muzzle and more pawing and before he knew it, he was in with all four feet! We let him play a bit and then walked out and back in and out again. After that it was no sweat.. he went right on it. Then he even went up and out over the little baby bank!! Going down it was tricky and required some thinking. Rather than push it I stopped and just went back in and out the up bank. He's only one!!! ;)

So then we walked over to the baby ditch. And Mr. Dan jumped it!! And was all proud of himself and prancy. Sooo freakin' cute. Then we went back over it again and same thing. He was all "whoo hoo, did you see what I just did?!, Aren't I cool?!". hee hee.. Poor Flecky.. he was getting annoyed with the young whipper snapper. Hee hee... So then we trotted.. yes trotted! over to the bank complex. He walked right up the bank (maybe BN size) and then turned and leapt right off. Hee hee... Also super proud of himself and prancy. We did that twice and then took off for the trails.
(Ha ha... Poor Dan.. I can't decide if he was purposely staying there so he could use Fleck's tail as a fly swatter or not, but that's what happened! heehee...)

He was great on the trails and Fleck kept him in check. We even did a good chunk of trotting because the bugs got a little bit thick. At one point he tried to stop and crossed his front legs at the chest trying to get a horsefly. Poor baby! So we carried on at a trot trying to get rid of those pesky flies. Then the thunder really started rumbling so we finally found our way and headed in. But we did some more trotting and he and Fleck stayed side by side. :) Then we jumped over a teeny little log. Hee hee... That boy is so cute. Fleck calmly walked over it but Dan has to lean back and launch over it like a "real" jump. He cracks me up. Then I had to talk him down again...  He's just so proud of himself. As he should be. Both boys got a lot of praise.

Then he stood tied to the trailer while Fleck was untacked and hosed and didn't even worry when Fleck walked off a bit. Then he got a rinse and behaved well and then got to graze for a little bit. They both self loaded and we headed back home.

It was a great ride!!!
