Send help!

 So... Danny is turning into a cranky apphole! He REALLY needs a job! I've had to beat him a little too much lately. 

He also stopped eating his trazadone so I gave up. And then he went careening around today... but he did looks fairly sound. I had taken Lyric out to check her for soundness and when I was bringing her back, they all got to running. 

 

Fine... once I got them slightly settled, I called him and he trotted up to me. Awwww, my heart! But then he was a turd and was so unfocused and distracted and even bit me! He was getting overly greedy with the alfalfa pellets and got carried away. I tried to teach him to "smile" and to "grab it", like... pick up something I dropped. But he was way too distrated. We did a tiny bit of pillar work... and tried to do the poll straddle. And he just wasn't cooperating. And I'm hormonal and sad so... I sort of gave up. We did do a decent side pass over the poll for a step or two, but... yeah. I just gave up and turned him back out and then fed them. 

 

I cannot wait until his ultrasound... I'm hopeful that he can at least go back to some walk work so I can tame the beast!

I am grateful that he's comfortable... I guess... I mean, I guess he's comfortable. He looks sound. I just don't know why he's so freakin' cranky and rude. Unless he just really really really needs a job, like I keep saying. Or he's jealous of the girls... or maybe he needs a trazadone detox!

Oh, and last night... it was supposed to rain around 6 am... and I decided at 11 pm that I should put sheets on them because while it was only supposed to be 58-60 degrees, wet at that temp is probably chilly. So I did. And he wanted to play with the clothes... and then was pawing the gate. Again... he's BORED OUTTA HIS MIND! So we spent about 10 minutes just snuggling and playing. I wiggled his lip... I did some fascial work on his neck base... I booped him.... I let him chew on my jacket and sniff me for treats. It was actually kind of nice. He didn't get too aggressive or cranky. I hope it helped  his mental status. (Although maybe it did for the night but he was clearly amped back up tonight... although the temps did drop substantially, the wind picked up, and they had all been running!).

3 weeks!

 We made it 3 weeks! And that's it. ;) 

We're done. ;) 

I turned him out in the middle pasture with Lyric Friday night because... I just... I can't. He's handling it better than me, but he has drugs! It's too expensive (more shavings, more hay), too much time to do stalls, and he's got edema in his sheath and belly, his shoulder is getting worse again, and he's getting a hair crankier. Flecky is getting stiffer/lamer because he's been up some too. The girls are a bit more feral as they are also being up and then no one is roaming as much because of them being split up. So.. I decided that the risks far outweight the benefits of stall rest so.. out he went. 

I'll try to at least keep him in the middle pasture for another week and ideally he'll stay with only one horse. And he'll be drugged. The girls ran like idiots twice now and he's not really done much. I do think that next weekend when Lyric and I go to the show overnight, I'll just let him be out with both Fleck and Funny and hope for the best. That will be easier for Mike and might be a good way to slowly introduce them all back together. 

I have been bemering and he did get shockwave #1. Plus he is getting a loading dose of adequan again. I've been watching but no more swelling... the sticks aren't indicating any issues... and in theory, because he isn't denerved, he should be self regulating if he's sore. I mean, it is Dan but...  well, hence the drugs.

still not swollen after and maybe even a bit better with a bit more movement but will see tomorrow. 

Planning to keep in tomrorow since I'm working all day.. then Thursday because of rain, then Friday because of work and then likely will just turn out Sat in the middle pasture. i'm over it. More than him I think. But he has the benefit of drugs. and doens't have to work. 

Almost there!

 We almost did it buddy! One more day til 2 weeks!! Except I have to work so I might not get to take your stitches out until Saturday. Well, maybe I'll take them out tomorrow... wrap you one last time... and then maybe Saturday we'll start playing with turning you out in the lane. 

But heck.. we're definitely not going to make it another 5 months. Heck, I don't even know that we'll make it until the 60 day ultrasound. And to be honest, we didn't even really "make it" this far because I'm not sure he's supposed to be hand walking or in a small paddock yet, although technically the vet did say "stall or small paddock", so... 

 

He was a pretty good boy today. A little feisty on our walk but totally manageable. Feisty in a good way. Like... he's stoned out of his mind, not depressed. He's pretty happy when he gets "woken up". But man is he getting chubby!!

 Today I let Dan graze a good bit in the dog pasture. He was happy enough to chomp on grass. Then later I changed his bandages and bemered him. Then I let him spend the rest of the day with his patio opened up to the little paddock between the pasture and the driveway. He was happy enough out there. And even pooped and peed out there, so yay!

(Last night he was out there some too while I was cleaning his stall and he found my hay bag and was flapping it around! ha ha!).

Then I decided he had to stay in like usual tonight because I had to spread manure and I didn't quite trust him to not escape overnight. And tomorrow it's supposed to rain and he still has bandages on, so he definitely won't get to be out tomorrow. Although, I will let him keep his patio. Hopefully his bandages won't get too wet. 

And then... I took him for another short walk and we did some pillar work this evening. And he got a bit feisty! You can tell when his trazadone has worn off! But bless him, he's being pretty darn good considering! I have a feeling that come Saturday.. he'll get a little bit of turn out in one of the lanes... and then it probably won't be too much longer before I cave and just turn him out. 

Meeting the Neighbors

 Tonight I took Dan for an evening stroll. We walked along the side of the farm as the grass is better there. We had meandered up to the "driveway" where GPS thinks our farm's driveway should be and said hi to Funny. Of course she noticed us and came running up! Then we realized that one of the neighbors and her daughter were out walking. They had their cute little cavalier dog with them. We chatted for a bit and then the girl, without asking, picked her dog up and held her up to meet Dan. Oh gosh... please don't eat her puppy Dan!! But he didn't! The puppy was terrified but Dan was so good! I should have gotten a photo! Phew!

opened the gate to the pasture.... let himself out.. then just sat there. I wondered why his butt in his stall looked like Funny's butt.... 

But didn't run from me...

grazed fine and got his bandages changed. Still looks good.

But yesterday (or thursday.... I don't know anymore) was grazing and the girls went to running and .... he spun in a few tight trot circles around me and looked lame. :(
