It's Christmas!

 Christmas!!

The ponies got candy canes for breakfast this morning. With breakfast.. ha ha.. they still got their regular feed. But we snacked on candy canes first! They loved it. After they got their breakfast, Mike and I did Christmas! And ate beignets! Yum!

After the festivities were over, I went out to drag the arena, spread manure, pick the pastures, and fix the water troughs. And it was warming up, so the ponies got naked time! They were silly and running amock! But... Dan looked mostly sound! Although I did see a few steps here and there. But at least he was playing again. Thank you God! And Happy Birthday Jesus!

After I finished that, I rode Lyric. And then, it was Dan's turn. We loaded up and headed to Ashland and met Kelli and Marvin. We headed out for our Christmas hack! We had to stop at the lake and Dan splashed with his right front a good bit. Yay! Good boy. Probably kind of chilly though. ;)

So then we walked around and took pictures at the Christmas tree. I tried to get one of the two of them together but Dan kept pinning his ears at Marvin! He was in a feisty mood today. Although when we first started out, he literally walked up to Marvin and practically licked his shoulder and neck. Weirdo! We had a nice hack though. I only cheated by like... 5 minutes this time!

It was a good Christmas!

Christmas Spirit

Ahhhhh, another walk with my boy! I wanted to find the Christmas tree today. Kathy had given me "directions" but... ha ha.. she was wrong. Or I misinterpreted. I thought she meant that it was past the wire balls and down in the little corner just before the beehive field. So, Dan and I went there first. I walked him past that area a few times trying to find that darn tree and couldn't find it. So then I gave up and we headed back towards the lake to go home, as I knew we were going to make our walk much longer than the 30 minutes we're "allowed". And... when we passed the stone wall... there it was!!! The Christmas tree!

Yay!! We found it. We took photos. We smiled. Christmas spirit!

So then we walked home. Yep... longer than we were allowed. Oh well. Not like we've been following the rules before anyways. ;)

Cheating... again. Whoops ;)

Sorry, not sorry! Ha ha.. We ended up walking for 42 minutes... "accidentally". But seriously.. it's hard to do 15 minutes in and 15 minutes out. It's so much easier to do the lake loop, which is a bit more than 30 minutes. And besides... we have yet to fully follow the rules anyways.

So we just accepted the fact that it was likely going to be more than our 30 minutes and enjoyed our hack with Kelli and Marvin. Plus, we took some snack breaks. And some wait on Marvin to catch up breaks. ;) Also, we played in the lake and got some splash therapy in. Brrrr though!

Cleared!!!!

Oh Dan!! BEST DAY EVER!!!!!

We had the farrier visit this morning and we opted to put him back in pads all the way around. He's prolapsing his frog his heel bulbs are collapsing, and he just seemed happier when he had pads all the way around. So I think we did frog support pads. We also took him out of his one rim pad for the atrophy, because... meh... I don't know that it was helping and I don't know if it was partly why he was lame on the left front. So we'll see. He also still had that hematoma on the toe of his left front. Only it was slightly medial and he seemed like he was more trying to avoid walking on the lateral side of his foot. It did look a little shallower to me, so hopefully it'll be gone or close to gone on the next shoe cycle. I jokingly told Patrick that I was bummed he didn't find an abscess or anything because I figured that the vet would have to work it up now and jokingly said "he's gonna tell me it's a keratoma and make me do another surgery". Shut your mouth Holly!!

Then I turned him out for a bit before our vet visit and he rolled and got filthy!! I thought I had given myself a little bit of extra time because we had to stop and get gas, but now... he really needed a grooming. Maybe I can still curry some of the filth off. Except after I caught him, as we were walking back, he grabbed the lead rope in his mouth and took off. Excuse me sir?!?! That's a new timing to that trick! Luckily he let me catch him and then cooperated back to the trailer. I knocked the big chunks off and loaded him up and we filled up the truck with diesel. We made it to the clinic on time and they put us in the big exam room. And then we waited a bit for the vet to show. Dan pooped... (thanks bud) and drug me around a bit. I did manage to keep him from eating the ultrasound or going into the second room and dirtying it up.

I told the vet about his left front and that we didn't find anything other than the hematoma. He watched him job and was excited about his hind end. He said he looked great. He also thought the right front looked better. (Which, maybe because he's now short on the left front? So now he matches! Doh!). I thought Dan looked pretty sound today but it's hard to see a front limb lameness from a straight line going away and to you (For me anyways). He blocked his foot and while we waited for that to kick in, we ultrasounded his suspensories. They look fantastic!!! They were no longer swollen and normal sized and looked good. He still had that one little avulsion fracture site but that was going to be that way forever and shouldn't cause him an issue. YAHOOO!!! So then we jogged him again and he thought he looked sound. So we x-rayed his foot. His angles looked good and there was only a tiny little bit of arthritis on the fetlock joint (I think). So then he did solar films. And sigh... there's a small little cresent blob shadow/cut out in his coffin bone at the toe. It sort of matched the site of his hematoma.

 Vet visit

hinds look awesome...

keratome suspect in left front but claiming it to be a hematoma only!

Went straight to Ashland to celebrate

A hair better

Dan seems to be in a little better mood. And I'm sure having full access to the pasture has helped... as has the cooler weather and shenanigans. Dude!!! But.. he looks pretty good!

I just can't seem to make a dent in his shoulder atrophy and am also wondering now about the atrophy where his neck ties into this scapula... I've been doing some fascial work there and getting big releases but.. not necessarily any change in the muscling.

But, he looks sound! I'm anxiously awaiting what his ultrasound around Christmas shows.
