More grazing.... another dog toy

Whooops... I totally realized that we didn't do our pillar work today. I took Funny out first and she was wild and then I went to get Dan and we grazed our way up there but never went and worked in the arena. I got distracted by posting Funny videos. Whoops! Oh well. He's getting much better at disengaging and softening the brachiocephalicus while he's being bemered. And we do practice it when we're grazing, as much as we can without snacking interruptions. :)

I found him a new dog toy at Tractor Supply. :) He loves it!

Break out

Whoops... Dan got loose today and trotted and then cantered up the field. Luckily it was a very sedate trot and canter... no antics. And he let me catch him. Phew! Technically his first day of hand walking. ha ha... He looked pretty sound though, so yay. And he also seems MUCH less sore in general. No holding that leg up other than once when he hiked it too high with Freddie. Who was amazing with him.

So... lots of snacks. And lots of toys. My friend gave me a slow feeder... ha ha.. I'm not sure that's how it's supposed to work bud. ;)

And then ha ha... his typical dinnertime behavior. :)

Birthday Boy! Birthday shenanigans

How is my baby boy 11??!!!!

Sadly, we couldn't celebrate today how we would have liked to.... no pool party. No cross country schooling. Sigh... But we still had a good day. We did a nice long graze and then went into the arena to have a nice roll and do some pillar work. He's such a goober!

First he had a good roll, complete with loud sound effects. Except he picked a spot awfully close to a jump to do it and shimmied towards the jump. Which meant that when he lurched up, he bopped his head into the standard. Hee hee. Luckily it's the plastic ones. Silly!

Then he grabbed the liverpool and was flinging it around. Hee hee. I was laughing so hard that it took me a minute to realize he was probably destroying it and it wasn't mine! So I had to stop his fun. Sorry buddy!

Finally we got through the antics and did a little bit of pillar work. It was pretty good. Then we went back out and I let him snack on the clover in the yard by the cabin and then he went into giraffe mode and was snacking on leaves. Hee hee. We did some more grazing and then it was so warm we headed back in.

Pillar Work Again and more grazing

So... today we braved heading into the arena. And Dan was EXCTATIC to have a good roll. You can hear it. :) Ha ha...

1 week down! 15 weeks to go.

Oh my! We've survived one week. I barely survived. I'm not sure if I've slept for more than 2 hours a night. He's not even being that bad... but the pawing is keeping me up. The drugs are helping him immensely though. I may have to up them a little. But I'm very grateful that he's doing as well as he is.

But we're gonna cheat a little. So, technically they said two weeks in a stall and then 2 weeks in a stall with hand grazing. But, that's just cruel, so... we grazed from day one. And after the first week, I opened up his patio. I just feel like his mental health and gastrointestinal health are also important. And as far as I can tell, he's not doing anything stupid. Yet! So... I'm quite proud of him! We can do this!

Home! And survived day 1

Well, we made it home. Dan hauled great and we made good time. I think he's grateful to be back home. I am too, although I have a feeling I will not be able to sleep for awhile. Life is about to go back to hectic. Luckily we had a few days to recover before work. So.... I made the most of them.

Funny is staying in at night with him while Fleck can go out. And Fleck is staying in during the day with him while Funny can go out. This sucks for Funny, as it's hot and she is spending most of the day in the stall with the boys anyways. And Fleck is like "see yah losers" and goes out to graze at night. But he's always there in the morning, hanging out. Which, while it's great that they are keeping him company, it also means I'm now practically stall resting 3 horses. Oh well. I'm glad they're keeping him company.

We'll be bemering, hang graazing, and doing our pillar work to help keep Dan entertained. Plus lots of toys. And drugs. :) Good drugs!
